Giuseppe Palmas (1918-77), one of the of the foremost photo reporters of the post-war years, is an illustration of the role played by fashion and film in Italy’s reconstruction after WWII. They document the various forms of hybridization between Italy, the US and other countries during the economic boom. He photographed stars such as Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, Anna Magnani, Ava Gardner, Ingrid Bergman, Humphrey Bogart, Lauren Bacall, Audrey Hepburn, Gloria Swanson and Salvatore Ferragamo, American Ambassador Clare Booth Luce, models such as Ivy Nicholson, Capucine and the fashion icon and countess, Consuelo Crespi.
